Dr. Elizabeth McNiel and her team have officially added kees to their stomach cancer study. They have found kees have about 7 times the risk for stomach cancer compared to other dogs. (Chow Chows are 10 - 20 times more likely) They are interested in collecting blood samples from kees over the age of 8 that do NOT have stomach cancer, as well as any kees suspected of having or diagnosed with stomach cancer. They provide a Fed Ex number for shipping so there is no shipping cost. Dr. McNiel also included an informational flier as a download, but since the list cannot accept downloads, you can contact me for that. It includes information on blood collection and how to ship blood as well has how to collect and ship tumor samples. Dr. McNiel's e-mail is mcniel @ cvm.msu.edu Tami Williams Paragon Kees

Hello Tami.
We have decided to officially include Keeshonden in our stomach cancer study.
We are interested in collecting blood samples and pedigrees from Keeshonden that do not have stomach cancer that are at least 8 years old as well as keeshonden that are diagnosed with or suspected to have stomach cancer. For dogs that have stomach cancer we are trying to collect tissue samples if they have surgery or an autopsy. If any of the dogs in your kennel are at least 8 years old we would love to get blood samples and pedigrees from them.
If you have any suggestions for getting the word out to keeshond breeders and owners, we would love your help with this. I am attaching a flier and some information about sample collection for veterinarians. We can provide a fedex account number for shipping.
Thank you again, Tami. We really hope that these efforts will help prevent this cancer in Keeshonden.
Best regards,
